At a political corruption trial, the attorney attacked a witness. "Isn't it true," he bellowed, "that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?"The witness stared out the window, as though he hadn't hear the question."Isn't it true that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?"The lawyer repeated.The witness still did not respond.Finally, the judge leaned over and said, "Sir, please answer the question.""Oh," the startled witness said, "I thought he was talking to you."
정치비리 재판에서 변호사가 증인을 추궁했다.
"당신이 이 사건에 합의하기 위해 5,000달러를 받은 게 사실인가요?" 변호사가 소리쳤다.
증인은 마치 질문을 못 들은 것처럼 창문만 응시하고 있었다.
"당신은 이 사건에 합의하려고 5,000달러를 받은 거 아닌가요?"
변호사가 다시 물어도 증인은 여전히 묵묵부답이었다.
결국 판사가 몸을 앞으로 내밀며 말했다, "증인은 질문에 답해주세요."
"아, 변호사가 판사님께 말하는 줄 알았어요." 증인이 깜짝 놀라며 말했다.
